THE Curriculum Development Department organised a Teacher’s Day exhibition yesterday at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, as part of the annual Teacher’s Day celebration.
A titah excerpt of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, was included for the opening of the exhibition.
The excerpt was taken from His Majesty’s titah at the 24th Teacher’s Day celebration where His Majesty stated the characteristics of a great teacher that society lauds and respects, such as strong leadership and extensive knowledge.
In addition, an excerpt of a poem by His Majesty’s late father, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam titled ‘Syair Laila Hasrat’ was also displayed. The excerpt from ‘Rampaian Laila Syair’ from 1994 expresses the importance of knowledge and education in one’s life.
Multiple student achievements were also showcased. Teo Siang Jun and Muhammad Haziq Zikri were present at the exhibition to represent Brunei Team A, which was the gold recipient in the 5th Asean plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO) earlier this year.
Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School students won the ninth place out of 36 countries in World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Sochi, Russia in 2014. The group showcased their ‘Robolifter’ project in the competition.
Higher-education institutions also took part in the exhibition. Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) showcased three books that focused on the concept of Brunei Darussalam as a Zikir Nation, while also displaying the current on-going research that UNISSA is conducting.
Meanwhile, Politeknik Brunei presented an application that could monitor in-house water consumption with the aim of reducing wastage. Al-Akif bin Irfan who represented his group told the Bulletin that he hoped the application could also provide locals with employment, income and ultimately reduce water wastage among the public.
