TO COMMEMORATE the 67th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between the People’s Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam, the Chinese embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a dinner reception last night at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong.
Receiving the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II, was Yang Jian, Chinese ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
Also at the event were members of the foreign diplomatic corps as well as members of the Chinese community in the country.
The Brunei and Chinese national anthem were both played shortly afterwards, followed by a short speech from the Chinese ambassador.
In her speech at the reception, she highlighted the 25 years of international relations between Brunei and China, particularly on the fruitful bilateral cooperation in different fields.
She also spoke of the growing economy due to the reform and opening-up policy.
“China cannot achieve its development without the world. China is ready to work with other countries to strengthen cooperation and achieve win-win results. Not long ago, the G20 Summit was held in Hangzhou, China. In the Communique issued after the summit, the leaders expressed their determination to foster an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy to usher in a new era of global growth and sustainable development. As a responsible major power, China is actively committed to contributing its ideas and wisdom to the global economic governance,” she said.
The event continued with a cake-cutting ceremony by the guest of honour and the ambassador followed by a presentation of the token of appreciation by the ambassador to the minister.
Also at the event was a photo exhibition showcasing the international relationship between Brunei Darussalam and China as well as a short cultural performance by Chung Hwa Middle School students.
