TRADITIONAL Bruneian games such as Salok-Salokan, Buah Lapas-Lapas, Congkak and others were showcased at the ‘Bersiuk-siuk Dengan Warisan Kitani’ (Let’s have fun with our heritage) event held at the Museum Complex of the Malay Technology Museum and its surrounding areas.
The one-day event was organised by Brunei Patriots, a group of students from Institute of Brunei Technical Education’s (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus and Politeknik Brunei who were on attachment at the Museums Department.
According to Siti Nabilah Hidayatullah Asimah Faris binti Idris from IBTE’s Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus, “The main aim of organising the event was to raise public awareness on our heritage and the museums in the country.”
She also mentioned that some of the volunteers and vendors of the event didn’t know the location the Malay Technology Museum. Through the event, she hoped that the younger generation and the public will know more about the museums in Brunei as well as the local traditional games.
Meanwhile, Ashlay Vivian bin Gimbar of Politeknik Brunei highlighted the importance of preserving the country’s own heritage and passing it on to the next generation.
More than 400 people visited the event with many children seen taking part in playing the traditional games.
