THE four-day ‘Enterprising Brunei: Innovating Youth Workshop 2016’, organised by the Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL) of Politeknik Brunei (PB), launched yesterday at the One Stop Centre of the institution’s main campus in Ong Sum Ping.
Present as guest of honour was Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, Acting Managing Director of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).
Also present was Cikgu Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar, Acting Director of PB. The launching ceremony yesterday commenced with a safety briefing followed with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a brief video presentation of PB’s corporate video.
It then continued with a welcoming remark from Cikgu Alias who emphasised that the collaboration between PB and BIBD provides an avenue for young students and entrepreneurs to be confident in starting their own businesses, become more entrepreneurial and creative, improving their enterprising skills including leadership development, social and personal skills development to pitch business ideas.
During an interview with Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Project Manager of the workshop who is also the Head of CiTL, she noted that the workshop will bring benefits to the participants in a way that will encourage them to start their own businesses and be taught to think outside the box.
One hundred and eighty students from different educational institutions of multiple educational levels will participate in the workshop. There will be about 60 students from PB, 15 students from Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (MDPMAMB), 15 students from Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI), 15 students from the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School and 15 students from Mabohai Primary School.
Thirty participants from the public and entrepreneurs were also invited to participate in the workshop.
A competition will be the main highlight of the workshop which will involve teamS generating an innovative product or business idea to be presented. Winners of the competition will receive a cash prize and certificate.
The facilitator of the workshop is Mohammed Arshed Butt, a leading entrepreneurship specialist who has delivered entrepreneurship programmes to many events.
The objective of the workshop also includes upholding the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam towards youth involvement in entrepreneurship.
The workshop is scheduled to end its run on Thursday.
