FC Phospor made certain that there would be no shock in the first round of the Brunei DST FA Cup after storming to an emphatic 5-1 win over Pandan FA at the Berakas Sports Complex yesterday.

The club, a household name in non-league football, failed to get pass the first round last year after being beaten by Mengellela FT but made sure that there was no repeat of an early cup exit.

Dylan Charles opened the scoring in the 9th minute before Md Faisal Awang Nawawi doubled his side’s lead in the 15th minute.

Md Daniel bin Haji Rosli of Pandan halved the deficit in the 25th minute before Md Raziman bin Zainal restored Phosphor’s two-goal cushion in the 37th minute.

Md Haziq bin Md Bakri extended his side lead in the 72nd minute before Jasman bin Nasri completed Pandan’s misery six minutes later.

FC Phosphor have been rewarded with a meeting with Dagang FT in the second round after the latter trounced sorry Bentara United 7-1 in a lopsided encounter at the Track and Field Sports Complex.

Awangku Md Azwan scored a brace while the solitary strikes came from Md Safiuddin, Md Marzuki, Md Azri, Md Syazani and Md Hazrul.

Md Norhadi scored a scant consolation for Bentara with the final goal of the game in the 72nd minute.

The prestigious cup competition continue on Sunday with DSP United, hoping to emulate last year’s deep run, playing against Telbru FT and Pandan XIV drawn against Hawa FT.

MS ABDB won last year’s edition in Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak’s second major honour as team manager after a thrilling 3-2 win over fierce rivals Indera SC.

The non-league teams will meet Brunei DST Premier League clubs in the third round with the Brunei DST Super League clubs only beginning their tournament in the fourth round.

Last year the magic of the FA Cup was in the air following huge upsets with DSP United upstaging Premier League outfit Besa FC 5-1 while Hawa FT thumped Panchor Murai 7-0.

DSP United came within touching distance of reaching the quarter-finals in last year’s FA Cup but were cruelly stopped in their tracks by Tabuan Muda who triumphed 4-3 in penalties.
