A THANKSGIVING prayer was held yesterday afternoon to welcome the safe return of the 12th International Monitoring Team (IMT-12) deployed in Mindanao, Philippines and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) peacekeepers deployed with the Malaysian Battalion 850-3 (MALBATT 850-3) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The ceremony began with the recitation of versus from the Al-Quran followed by a mass Asar prayer, Dikir Marhaban and a thanksgiving prayer.
Present at the ceremony were First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Acting Minister of Defence; Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF; members of the Defence Executive Committee, service commanders, representative from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), directors, senior officers and personnel of the Ministry of Defence and RBAF.
The IMT-12 and the RBAF UNIFIL contingents safely returned on September 16, 2016 and on October 6, 2016 respectively.
In an interview with Major Sheikh Mohd Faizal bin Dato Paduka Haji Sheikh Adnan, Staff Officer 2 Legal shared on his experience during their one-year deployment in Mindanao, Philippines.
“Our main role is to monitor the cease fire agreement between the Government of Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).”
“Most of our work is to monitor in seeing if there is any violation of cease fire. We will do verification, conduct report, patrol and meeting with all the stakeholders from the government, military and police,” he said.
