THE Cluster 4 netball team emerged as champions at the open category of the Netball Championship held in conjunction with the 26th Teacher’s Day celebration after they defeated Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) 23 – 26 in the final match held at the Sports School’s netball court in Kg Pulaie yesterday.
In the beginners category, the Cluster 3 team emerged as the champions by defeating the Cluster 4 team 17 – 26. The winners received their prizes from the chief guest, Datin Hajah Asmah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, wife of the Minister of Education.
A total of nine teams competed in the open category and another nine teams competed in the beginners category.
The championship was organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education.
The aims of the championship were to commemorate and enliven the 26th Teacher’s Day celebration, and as part of long-term netball sport development project of the Ministry of Education.
It also aimed to search for talented and potential players to represent the Ministry of Education netball team.
Meanwhile, Dayang Timah binti Ulat from Cluster 1 was judged as the most valuable players (MVP) in the championship. She has represented Ministry of Education Netball team since 1988 and played in various positions.
She also played for the veteran category and also coaches for the Brunei Darussalam Sports Council School Netball team.
