SEVEN Qari (male) and one Qariah (female) participants took part in the Adult Level Al-Quran Reading Competition to represent the Tutong District yesterday.
The competition was held at the Kampong Penanjong Mosque in Tutong.
The competition was won by Haji Mahari bin Haji Metussin in the Qari category, and Lailatul Nasyitah binti Haji Abu Bakar in the Qariah category. Meanwhile, Haji Masri bin Haji Mohamad and Razali bin Ibrahim won second and third place respectively in the Qari category.
The competition was organised by Imarah Division, Department of Mosque Affairs with the cooperation from the Tutong District Mosque Affairs Department and members of the Takmir Committee of the Kampong Penanjong Mosque, Tutong.
The competition was held to select Qari and Qariah to represent the Tutong District who will compete in the semi-finals on the national level.
The competition was also meant to attract public interest in continuously improving the quality of their recitations and to encourage talented individuals in the art of Al-Quran recitation to hone their skills through this competition.
Present as the guest of honour at the event was Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, Acting Tutong District Officer. Also present were senior officers and staff from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, parents and nearby residents.
