THE youths in the Bruneian delegation chosen to take part in the Singapore-Brunei Darussalam Youth Leadership Exchange (SBYLEP) will serve as ambassadors of the nation and will receive a good amount of exposure to commit towards Vision 2035.
This was highlighted by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, during a goodwill gathering held yesterday with for around 15 local youths who are departing for Singapore today (Sunday) for an exchange programme which will run from October 16-20.
“The nation values youths and they need to uphold the national philosophy of Malay, Islamic Monarchy (MIB). It is for the youths to see the development of Singapore and its economic, social and political scene. Ties with Singapore are warm and friendly and the visit is valuable to see how it attains its sustainability,” the minister said.
He added that the selection process for the trip was different from other youth exchange programmes with other countries as only eligible participants were chosen.
The Youth Leadership Exchange programme has been held alternately in the two countries since 2014. It was mooted by the President of the Republic of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan in 2013. The youths chosen come from different fields and from different government ministries, NGOs, universities and leaders in the society aged between 23-35 years old.
