CHMS Alumni Association holds charity run

OVER 800 participants joined the first Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) Alumni Association Charity Run, which was held yesterday at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Organised by the CHMS Alumni Association, the charity run was officiated by the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs, together with Dato Jack Ting, the Managing Director of Cityneon; Dato Paduka Mohd Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Senior Trustee of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam (Pusat Ehsan); Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, President of Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei and other representatives.

The charity run saw runners divided into different categories: 10.5km Open (men and women); Borneo Bulletin 5.5km Open (men and women); Borneo Bulletin 5.5km Veteran (50 years and above) for men and women; Borneo Bulletin 5.5km for boys and girls (under 18 years old); Kingston 3km Fun Run (men and women), and Bake Culture 2km Fun Run for special needs children.

According to Tan Guan Siong, the Chairman of CHMS Alumni Association, the purpose of the event was to strengthen the ties between the association’s members and all ex-students of CHMS as well as other societies, and the public in order to promote a healthy lifestyle and running for health and charity.

He underlined that the Bake Culture 2km Fun Run was specially created for the special needs children from Pusat Ehsan; Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) and SMARTER Brunei.

The winners of the 10.5km Open received a cash prize of $700 for first place, $500 for second place and $300 for third place along with $100 each for seven consolation places.

Meanwhile, in the Borneo Bulletin 5.5km Open, winners received $500, $300 and $100 respectively and seven consolation winners received $50 each. For the Borneo Bulletin 5.5km Veteran category, winners received $400 for the first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place and seven consolation prizes of $50 each.

The Borneo Bulletin 5.5km for boys and girls winners received $300 for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third with seven consolation prize winners receiving $50 each.

All runners who completed the route within the specified times received finishing medals and prizes, which were presented by the guest of honour.
