Speech winner invited to Japan

THE winner of the 30th Japanese Speech Contest will be visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japan Overseas Enterprises Association (JOEA).

Dayangku Zayaputeri binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yamin, whose winning speech was ‘Don’t cry’ in the Advanced Level, will represent Brunei and share her winning speech with other Asean representatives during her visit to Japan from October 23 to 30.

She will also visit industrial, cultural and historic places, and will be acquainted with Japanese customs during this cultural exchange programme, according to a press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.

Dayangku Zayaputeri also paid a courtesy call on Noriko Iki, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam.

The main purpose of the cultural exchange invitation is to enhance mutual understanding between Japan and Asean member countries.

The return ticket to Japan is sponsored by All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the Japan Foundation; while accommodation, and all related expenses, are covered by JOEA.

A total of 11 Japanese language learners took part in the contest, which was held at Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus on August 27.

The contest was divided into two categories: Beginner’s category and Advanced category.

Its aim was to encourage contestants to give a public demonstration of their competency in Japanese.
