DARE (Darussalam Enterprise) held an Enterprise Open Day event in Temburong District yesterday at the Main Hall of the Community Hall Complex in Pekan Bangar.
Similar to the previous enterprise open days held in January, March and September this year in the Brunei-Muara, Belait and Tutong districts respectively, the event is an outreach initiative by DARE to provide assistance and services to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses, providing talks on various business-related topics, offer one-to-one clinics as well as give opportunities for enterprises to log in any business-related issues, suggestions or inquiries at the business helpdesk.
The event saw a number of talks conducted, dealing with the DARE’s Industry Business Academy, how to write a business plan, business opportunities in agriculture and tourism as well as cooperatives.
In addition, one-to-one clinics were held on financial management by DARE and business plan writing by LiveWIRE.
The agencies present at the event to provide assistance and offer their services to the business community included the Vision 2035 Secretariat, the Ease of Doing Business, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Registry of Companies and Business Names (ROCBN), Revenue Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED), Certificate of Origin, Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO), e-Government National Centre (eGNC), Labour Department, Employees Trust Fund (TAP), Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi), OneBiz, Land Department, district office, the Department of Electrical Services as well as the Co-operative and Cottage Division.
Private sector agencies also supported and participated in the event, including Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Baiduri Bank Berhad, Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), Maybank, BAG Networks and LiveWIRE.
“Moving forward, the enterprise open days held by DARE are a continuous initiative that will be conducted annually in each district to update the public on any improvements being made to the business ecosystem, to further follow up on new business-related issues, and to create awareness on the services provided by the government agencies and private sectors for local enterprises,” said DARE in a press release.
Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office attended yesterday’s event.
Speaking in an interview, he shared, “We have had the Enterprise Open Day in Brunei-Muara District, Tutong District and Belait District. This is the first Enterprise Open Day in Temburong District. There is quite a sizable number of people doing business and entrepreneurship in Temburong.”
The Enterprise Open Day, he said, is a chance for DARE and other government agencies to look at the people’s business issues and problems.
The single most important factor in helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is data, he said, adding that over the last few years, not enough of such data has been collected. “We must have all this data so that we can understand where the SMEs are so that we can then devise a plan to make sure that we are giving the right help and capacity building. That’s what we have to make sure of.”
He expressed his hope that the event would help businesses and entrepreneurs in Temburong District resolve any issues they may have, as well as help them know where to go to have those issues resolved.
