FOR the past 20 years, the family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo has been carrying out the inherited tradition of contributing to Chinese schools and a Chinese chess association in the country to help boost Chinese education and culture.
Continuing on the tradition, Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai with his brothers – Lim Beng Cheng, Lim Ming Kiat and Lim Ming Siong – yesterday gave away a total of $50,000 to eight Chinese schools in the Sultanate and another $2,000 to the Brunei Chinese Chess Association.
The eight school recipients were Chung Hwa Middle School of Bandar Seri Begawan (receiving $20,000), Chung Ching Middle School in Seria and Chung Hua Middle School of Kuala Belait ($10,000 each), as well as Chung Hwa School in Labi, Chung Lian School in Sungai Liang, Chung Hwa School of Tutong, Chung Hwa School of Kiudang and Pai Yuek School in Temburong ($2,000 each).
On behalf of all the recipients, Ong Tiong Oh, the Chairman of Chung Hwa Middle School BSB’s Board of Directors, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo for presenting the donations to schools for the past 20 consecutive years.
“The late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo, who was also the Chairman of Chung Hwa Middle School BSB, has always looked after the interest and development of Chinese education, and has also generously contributed towards the noble cause,” he said.
“For 20 consecutive years, the Family of the late Pehin Datu Temenggong Dato Seri Paduka Lim Teck Hoo has continued to carry on this admirable tradition to help the development of Chinese education and promote Chinese culture,” he added.
“We sincerely thank you for the contributions.”
Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, Dato Paduka Lim Beng Thai said, “In the 21st century, global competition is without boundaries, therefore the younger generation needs to absorb and learn increasing education skills and positive values to face future challenges.”
Today, he said, “The Lim Teck Hoo Holdings foundation is contributing $50,000 to eight Chinese schools to further improve teaching conditions, as well as to promote the development of Chinese education and produce quality talents for the future.”
