PEHIN Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday received a courtesy call from a delegation of the Japan National Badminton team.
The delegation is currently in Brunei Darussalam for the Brunei-Japan Badminton exchange organised by Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in Brunei in commemoration of the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The event is part of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ initiative, which aims to promote sports to over 10 million people in over 100 nations until 2020 when Japan will host the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Also present at the courtesy call were Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; as well as Noriko Iki, the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, and senior officials from the MCYS.
