THE people of Brunei Darussalam have once again shown their benevolence and charitable side in helping the poor, underprivileged and those less fortunate than themselves. Donations from the general public have been pouring into the coffers of associations that are responsible for distributing the contributions to those in need.
These associations – the Community Services Programme (Program Khidmat Masyarakat), Syababurroja Youth Group and Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Muslimah Group – have also collaborated for the first time to accumulate funds from the period of September 25 to October 4, 2016. The funds were distributed to recipients – 50 members of needy families – in a presentation ceremony that was held yesterday at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
The donations were presented by the event’s guest of honour, Ustaz Haji Amir Hisyam bin Haji Masri, Assistant Director of the Department of Mosque Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
As requested by members of the public, donations will continue into the second phase from October 19 to November 4.
In his address, Ustaz Haji Haris bin Haji Suboh, Chairman of the Community Services Programme in collaboration with the Syababurroja Youth Group and Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Muslimah Group, said that the charitable endeavour made possible by generous members of the public is very much encouraged in Islam, and it is also a social responsibility for everyone to help the poor and needy.
Among the attendees at yesterday’s ceremony were the village heads of Kampong Kiulap, Kampong Kiarong and Kampong Menglait, as well as officers from the Department of Mosque Affairs.
