THE Brunei-Japan Badminton Exchange to commemorate the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam continued yesterday evening at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas with more practice matches.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah were present to watch the matches.
The first demonstration match was between Sho Sasaki and Kenya Mitsuhashi, followed by a Singles match between Syazani Aiman and Yu Igarashi with the latter winning the match 21-7, 21-8.
A Women’s Doubles match saw Brunei’s pair Amalina Aliah Haji Gapor and Noornekma Rinah Haji Roshin going against Japan’s pairs, Miyuki Kato and Miki Kashihara.
The Japanese pair won the match 21-10, 21-4.
The last match of the evening was the Men’s Doubles mixed pairing both countries. Ahmad Mahyuddin paired with Kenya Mitsuhashi playing against Abdul Raiaiman with Sho Sasaki.
Pairs of Abdul Raiaiman and Sho Sasaki won the first set with the score of 11-9 and Ahmad Mahyuddin and Kenya Mitsuhashi won the second set with the score of 11-7.
Today, the team will be visiting Kampong Ayer, followed by a coaching session for students at the Indoor Stadium in the afternoon and a farewell reception by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam in the evening.
