YOUTH activities, talent and creativity should be highlighted during the National Day parade, said Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday, while chairing the first meeting of the executive committee for next year’s National Day celebrations.
During the meeting, the minister suggested developing themes that embody the country’s patriotic spirit and unwavering loyalty to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
“The theme should also be easy to embrace, as a basis for projects and programmes throughout the year, that benefit both the people and the country,” he said.
The minister said this year’s celebrations saw several improvements, particularly in terms of transport and preparation. “These developments have prompted all parties concerned to make even better performances next year,” he said, adding that he wanted to see more concerted efforts from the committee in that direction.
He also broached the subject of a suitable logo, which he said, “should not only serve as an introduction, but also an extension of the theme, while conveying moral values that everyone should strive for towards excellence.”
Among the other topics discussed at yesterday’s meeting were flag-raising, budget provisions and side-events.
Also present at the meeting were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, deputy ministers, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, senior officials and members of the private sectors.
