THE Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) continues to strive towards its goal as a renowned university in the Malay world by establishing ties with institutes of higher learning and university organisations, especially those related to Islamic teaching and studies.

This was said yesterday by KUPU SB Acting Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar during the 6th KUPU SB Convocation Ceremony at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.

He said that KUPU SB was acknowledged as one of the main universities in the Asean region when it was appointed as the founding member of the Asean Teachers Education Network (AsTEN) on April 18 this year, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

“As a member of the Asia-Pacific University Community Engagement Network (APUCEN), KUPU SB also plays an active part in the network’s social and welfare activities. Insya Allah, KUPU SB will be the host at the 9th APUCEN Consul Member Meeting on December 5, 2016, after which we will host an international seminar on youth education and community service – together with APUCEN.

“To mark its 10th anniversary, KUPU SB will be hosting the 2nd International Teachers’ Education Seminar in January 2017, with help from the Consortium of Asia-Pacific Education Universities (CAPEU).”

Dr Haji Adanan noted that the number of goodwill visits they received this year was testament to KUPU SB’s growing popularity among educational institutes of higher learning in the region.

“Following these visits, KUPU SB has been able to foster friendly and cooperative relations with seven international institutes of higher learning, which shall be sealed with MoU and MoA signings later today,” he said.

The Acting Ra’es concluded his speech by mentioning that KUPU SB has also taken the step of providing in-house training to its academic and support staff.

Among the courses being offered are on the General Order (GO) of 1961, Financial Regulations (FR), Pedagogy, Jawi writing and Hadith studies.
