BRUNEI Darussalam will commemorate its 11th National Youth Day today with a mass gathering scheduled to be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas this morning.
The occasion, which is marked every November 1, celebrates youth contributions and recognises their significance in the country’s development and sets to inspire the next generation of leaders.
Themed ‘Visionary Youth: Catalyst for Transformation’, the event will see the attendance of thousands of youths from different education institutions, organisations, associations and voluntary groups nationwide and among others will also see the announcement of recipients for this year’s exemplary and meritorious youth and youth leader awards.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is scheduled to grace the event this morning.
Meanwhile, to bless the occasion, the 11th National Youth Day celebration organiser, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) hosted a religious ceremony last evening at Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Malik Mosque in Kg Tungku, Gadong.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, was present as guest of honour during the mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers, Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil recitations and thanksgiving prayer ceremony.
The mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers were led by Ustaz Mohd Hashim bin Haji Abdullah, a teaching staff from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) who was also the recipient of the meritorious youth award in 2013.
Hundreds of youths from different youth organisations and associations including students from higher education institutions attended the religious ceremony.
Also in attendance were other senior officials from government ministries including the MCYS, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Health as well as members of the Executive Committee for the 11th National Youth Day celebration.
