AN AGREEMENT was signed recently between FOB Sdn Bhd and The Empire Hotel & Country Club to introduce Brunei’s most prestigious beach resort and world-class golf course to the Korean market.
As is explained in a press release from FOB, the agreement was signed on Thursday by Park Sung Ho, the CEO of FOB and Nigel Badminton, General Manager of The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
FOB’s CEO Park Sung Ho is quoted in the press release as saying, “We have been making every effort to raise awareness to encourage the Koreans to visit Brunei Darussalam and vice-versa.”
“Our initial strategy is to focus on the highly lucrative Korean golf packages market segment to enjoy the excellent golf course in Brunei Darussalam including the prestigious courses at The Empire Hotel & Country Club.”
It is also shared that, from 2010-2015, the number of Korean departures had increased from 12.5 million to 19.3 million or recording on average 8.7 per year. For period of 2014 to 2015 the rate of departure has substantially increased to 20.1 percent.
The Korea golf package tours are the third largest after the USA and Japan where, in 2014, a total of 1.13 million Korean golfers went to play in golf courses overseas.
The Empire Hotel & Country Club is a member of Worldhotels and recipient of numerous prestigious international awards, including Best Golf Resort in Asia Pacific by Asian Golf Monthly 2011 & 2010 and 1st Runner Up for Best Golf Resort in Asia by Asian Golf Monthly Awards 2009 & 2008.
Apart from the golfing package, FOB Sdn Bhd shared that, through its sister company, McSSY Sdn Bhd, it is also opening shopping outlets at The Empire Hotel & Country Club to develop business opportunities at the hotel by bringing in Korean cosmetic products and provide beauty consultations as well.
“In due course, the company also has plans to set up a Beauty Academy and bring in a Junior Golf Academy to Brunei Darussalam,” reads the press release.
Thursday’s signing follows an earlier agreement signed on October 27 between FOB and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) to launch direct charter flights connecting Brunei with South Korea to boost trade, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
It is also shared that, from 2010-2015, the number of Korean tourism departures had increased from 12.5 million to 19.3 million or recording on average 8.7 per year. For the period of 2014 to 2015 the rate of departure has substantially increased to 20.1 per cent.
As is said in the press release, “In support of the government’s current tourism drive, FOB has been working with various stakeholders in both Brunei Darussalam and Korea to enhance the Brunei tourism sector.”
“In particular, FOB would like to record its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Brunei Investment Agency as well as the local travel agents for their continuous support.”
