PEHIN Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) watched the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2016 in Kuching at the invitation of the Sarawak Government.
Four teams from Brunei Darussalam are participating in this event namely Lela Cheteria team (MLP, KLD), TelBru Brunei, a team from the Ministry of Education and a team from the National Boat Race Association.
Present to officiate the event themed ‘Race For Harmony’ was Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Johari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, the Deputy Chief Minister, who is also Minister of Housing and Urbanisation and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak.
The minister was also invited by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to watch the semi-final match between Brunei Darussalam and Macau at Sarawak Stadium. The minister was pleased to see that the sport was given recognition, respect and equal importance with other social sectors to achieve national development goals, unity and continued stability.
