SOME 800 students enjoyed an electrifying performance by the US Navy 7th Fleet Band, supported by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Band, yesterday at the International School Brunei (ISB) Theatre.

They played a slew of modern hits such as ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars and ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers, which they covered expertly in big band style.

Among those who attended the musical performance were Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

Also in attendance were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim, and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raqeeqah Raayatul Bolqiah binti Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim, son and daughter of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah.

The US Navy 7th Fleet Band is part of the crew that is currently in Brunei for the 22nd annual bilateral military exercise, Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT).

The musical performance is also seen as a step towards strengthening relations between RBAF members and their visiting US counterparts.

Senior Chief Guy Gregg, the Senior Enlisted Leader of the 7th Fleet Band said, “We’ve enjoyed this partnership with Brunei for 22 years, and hope to continue it well into the future.”

The band will also be performing live on tonight at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre. Admission will be free and members of the public are welcome to attend the show.
