International Day is an annual cultural event to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures, nationalities, and languages of the school body, with 47 nations being represented by the ISB students.
Throughout the event, ISB students, parents, staff members and their families participated by wearing the national dress of their respective home countries, or a traditional costume of their own choice such as the Baju Melayu and Baju Kurong from Brunei, the Kimono and Yukata from Japan, the Cheongju and Hanbok from Korea, and the Cheongsam from China.
The day began with a ‘parade of nations’ during the school assembly in the multipurpose hall, which was followed by various cultural performances from students in various year groups, members of the ISB community, the Seri Mulia Sarjana School (SMSS) and the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary Schoo.
Among the memorable performances were two traditional songs from Indonesia, ‘Naik Delman’ and ‘Hela Rotan’; the Peacock Dance of the Dai tribe in Yunnan Province, China, by Years 9 and 10 students from SMSS; and a ‘Ngajat’ dance with some blow-pipe demonstrations by members of the Eco Ponies Garden in Kampong Lamunin, Tutong.
But the main highlight of the day was the International Food and Fun Fair, with students, parents and teachers setting up stalls with food from a dozen different nationalities, or showcasing fun games based around the theme or culture of a particular country.
