HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday arrived safely in Lima, Republic of Peru to attend the 24th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM), which is held from November 19-20 at the Lima Convention Center.
Present at Jorge Chavez Air Force Base, Lima to greet His Majesty was Carlos Basombrio, Minister of State for Interior.
Also present to greet His Majesty were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, and Dato Paduka Haji Serbini bin Haji Ali, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United States of America, who is also Non-Resident Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Peru.
His Majesty then walked past a static guard of honour, before boarding a motorcade towards a renowned hotel in Lima, where His Majesty will reside throughout the duration of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) 2016.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
It was established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the region and to strengthen the Asia-Pacific community.
Since its inception, APEC has worked to reduce tariffs and other trade barriers across the Asia-Pacific region, creating efficient domestic economies and dramatically increasing exports.
The theme for the 24th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) this year is ‘Quality Growth and Human Capital Development’.
