HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday morning attended the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Summit at the Lima Convention Center, Republic of Peru.
At the summit, His Majesty was welcomed by Barack Obama, the President of the United States, as host of the TPP Summit.
The TPP Summit focused on the updates on ratification and respective procedures of TPP Parties as well as the political developments since the TPP Agreement was signed on February 4.
His Majesty thanked President Obama for briefing the meeting on the state of play of TPP in the US.
His Majesty also shared Brunei Darussalam’s effort for TPP to be ratified.
In ending the titah, His Majesty expressed his appreciation to President Obama for his leadership and dedication to the TPP initiative, whilst also acknowledging the warm relationship both countries have enjoyed.
The Summit was attended by the 12 TPP member countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Republic of Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Peru, Republic of Singapore, the United States of America and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Meanwhile in the afternoon session, His Majesty also attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Dialogue Session with APEC Economic Leaders and the 24th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).
Upon arrival, His Majesty was officially welcomed by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of the Republic of Peru.
His Majesty then proceeded to the Plenary Session of the ABAC Dialogue together with other APEC Economic Leaders.
The Plenary Session began with a speech by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of the Republic of Peru as Chairman of the AELM 2016.
This was followed by the ABAC Report, which was presented by Juan Raffo, the ABAC Chair.
ABAC is the private sector body of the APEC Cooperation forum, which presents recommendations to APEC Leaders in an annual dialogue and advises APEC officials on business sector priorities and concerns.
In the evening, His Majesty attended a Gala Dinner to welcome the APEC Economic Leaders attending the AELM, hosted by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of the Republic of Peru.
The dinner took place at the Parque de la Reserva (Park of the Reserve), Lima.
His Majesty was greeted on arrival by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of the Republic of Peru and proceeded to the Banquet Hall together with other APEC Economic Leaders.
The AELM Gala Dinner began with welcoming remarks from Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, the President of the Republic of Peru. The gala dinner also featured cultural and musical performances.
