FIVE volunteer teachers from the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) will be in Cambodia from December 3-14 to teach English to children in Cambodia villages.
In regard to this, SCOT has partnered with the Organisation for Building Community Resources (OBCR) Cambodia to strengthen the Asean Community relationship and building foreign language competency to create an opportunity for Cambodian children to interact in English.
SCOT has also launched the SCOT Infrastructure Project that focuses on providing basic facilities for the villages in Cambodia which include building wells to provide access to clean water. Through the assistance of generous Bruneians in 2014, the building of 30 wells across remote rural Cambodia was made possible, according to SCOT. With more resources and networks in the near future, SCOT will consider expanding its projects to other countries in the region.
It hopes to raise more funds from the public prior to the volunteer’s departure in order to help support the project and welcomed members of the public to join its humanitarian mission of providing infrastructure access to clean water to the remote villages in Cambodia.
Since 2013, SCOT has managed to build over 30 water wells in villages in Cambodia in partnership with Charitable Association of Cambodian Islamic Graduates.

This project also aims to train the volunteer teachers to conduct skill-based English language activities, to help Cambodian rice farmers and their families as well as to hand over donations for well-building in rural Cambodia.
Through this programme, SCOT aims to contribute towards the nation’s Vision 2035 of ‘an education strategy that will prepare our youth for employment and achievement in a world that is increasingly competitive and knowledge-based’.
The programme also helps the Asean Economic Community, which in line with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s encouragement for local Bruneian youth to provide service to Asean member states.
SCOT Education entails a long-term vision towards seeing positive development on the education of the underprivileged community both in Brunei and Cambodia. Having a consistent presence in Cambodia annually would allow them to measure the project’s outcome over a period of time. The programme is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
