BRUNEI Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) recognised and accepted Brunei Darussalam Yachting Association (BDYA) in Feb 2016 as an affiliated member.
BDYA was then accepted as a full member of Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) and now is accepted as a full member of the World Sailing (WS), formerly known as ISAF International Sailing Federation.
The President of BDYA, Dato Paduka Ar Haji Idris bin Haji Abas attended the General Assembly of the WS recently in Barcelona, Spain. He was accompanied by his vice–president, Bohari Abdullah.
World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

It is also responsible for developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions, the training of judges, umpires and other administrators, the development of the sport around the world; and representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
The principle members of World Sailing are the ‘Member National Authorities’ (MNAs) and the ‘Class Associations’.
The President of BDYA said, as one of the Member National Authorities, Brunei Darussalam Yachting Association has the voting right in the recent general assembly where the new president and seven vice presidents were elected. Kim Andersen was elected as the new president of World Sailing for the next four years.
The BDYA President Dato Idris expressed his gratitude for BDYA as a member of ASAF and WS where we now can have the benefit of participating in all the sailing events organised by ASAF and WS. We can also get the good governance and technical assistance from these organisations.
Last year 2015 BDYA participated in Kota Kinabalu Open 15th City Regatta and came second overall in Laser class. BDYA also representing Brunei in the Singapore 28th SEA Games in Laser and Optimist categories.
