THE 16th Asean Telecommunications and IT Ministers Meeting (TELMIN) hosted a gala dinner and the Asean ICT Awards (AICTA) last night at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Present for the evening spectacle were the Chairman of TELMIN, Minister of Communications Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, together with Asean ministers and dialogue partners.
In his welcoming speech, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa welcomed all guests to celebrate a night of friendship, partnership and camaraderie within the region.
“We are also here to recognise and celebrate the best ICT innovations in Asean,” he added.
The Asean ICT Awards, said the chairman, aimed to spur creativity and innovations, with participants from a wider Asean Community.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa expressed that he was pleased and honoured to note that Brunei Darussalam is hosting this year’s AICTA.
He went on to congratulate the top recipients for their achievements in reaching the final stage of the awards. The top finalists were from Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.
The award was divided in six categories – Public Sector, Private Sector, Corporate Social Responsibility, Digital Content, as well as Start-up, Research and Development.
The chairman hoped that with the awards, recipients can reach even greater heights in the days and years ahead.
“This should not be the end, but the beginning,” he remarked.
AICTA is a project approved by the Asean Telecommunication Ministers.
It is in line with one of the six Strategic Thrusts, Innovations as stated in the Asean ICT Masterplan (AIM) 2015 under the initiative 3.2 ‘Promote Innovation
and Collaborations amongst Government, Businesses, Citizens and other Institutions’.
AICTA wishes to recognise the best ICT achievements among entrepreneurs across the Asean region.
Its objectives are to be the benchmark for success in terms of innovations and creativity, offer business opportunities and promote trade relations, thus boosting the strength of ICT and community awareness in Asean and across the world.
