THE Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) held a closing ceremony yesterday for their Family Day event which began on October 9, in conjunction with the 6th National Teacher’s Day celebrations.
Present as the guest of honour at the ceremony was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education.
Haji Matassan bin Haji Bungso, the Secretary-General of PGGMB and chairman of the organising committee, in his speech explained that among the main objective of the month-long celebration was to forge closer ties between their staff members, teachers, students, parents and guardians.
He said the celebration was also intended to establish closer networking ties among PGGMB members and the rest of the community.
Haji Matassan also added that the association is making an effort to equip teachers with more skills and knowledge through programmes such as ‘Best Practices/Initiatives towards Excellence in Education’, which focuses on critical thinking and problem-solving among educators.
“This is being done in view of the commitment, efforts and the important role that they play in their students’ success,” he said.
Yesterday’s closing ceremony saw the Deputy Minister of Education presenting prizes and certificates to students with outstanding results in their PSR, BGCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level and Religious Primary School Certificate examinations, and the Brunei Religious Education Higher Certificate in 2015.
It was followed by a presen-tation of awards to several PGGMB teachers and staff members, and a presentation of prizes for activities held during the PGGMB Family celebrations, including a Dikir Syarafil Anam competition, a PGGMB inter-school choir competition and a futsal tournament.
