THE Brunei Job Fair 2016 is now officially open at Exhibition Halls 1 and 2 of the Bridex International Exhibition Centre, following a launching ceremony that took place yesterday.

Organised by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Job Fair continues today and tomorrow, with the theme, ‘Realising employment excellence through capacity building, competency and performance’.

The Brunei Job Fair 2016 will be offering job opportunities for a wide range of skills and qualification levels from multiple sectors such as Construction, Food and Beverage, Tourism and Hospitality, Manufacturing, Health, Transportation and Logistics, Education, Banking and Finance, Publishing, IT and Creative Industries, Retail, Services and Telecommunications.

Attending yesterday’s opening ceremony as the guest of honour was Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office, who officially launched the Job Fair before touring the exhibition booths.

In a speech yesterday, the minister said, “The Brunei Job Fair 2016 is one of the government’s efforts to involve all sectors of industry across the country in a holistic way in one place.”

He shared that a total of 222 companies are participating in the job fair, including 112 that are participating online, noting that the fair showcases 2,565 job opportunities from various sectors.

Also participating are foreign direct investment (FDI) partners and young entrepreneurs, higher education institutions and uniformed bodies. “Accordingly, there are 2,279 direct job opportunities from foreign direct investment projects from now until 2018.”

“This is a very encouraging response. What caught my attention is that some job vacancies have been offered by young entrepreneurs from existing businesses and startups,” said the minister. “I congratulate these young entrepreneurs as they have shown a good example in upholding and generating employment and further developing our locals.”

In addition to the job opportunities, a number of activities will take place during the job fair, including CV writing and career counselling, job demonstrations, walk-in interviews, industry rounds table and entrepreneurship focus group sessions, digital literacy programme sessions and inspirational talk sessions, which are all open to jobseekers and visitors in general.

The Perseverance, Resilience and Success Talk sessions feature inspirational individuals who started from ‘zero’ and made it to a successful career or business, with the aim to provide inspiration and motivation to local job seekers and to show that success can be achieved with perseverance, resilience, commitment and hard work.

In a press release from the organisers, it is shared that visitors may download the Job Fair Mobile App to find out the daily schedule and program of activities, the list of available vacancies and exhibitors. The Job Fair Mobile App is only available for Android users for now.
