BRUNEI’S biggest local car rental and leasing company, BETTER Sdn Bhd, was lauded by Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, the Minister of Communications, during a launching ceremony that took place yesterday at the Times Square Shopping Centre in Berakas.

The minister, who officiated at the launching, told the local media, “BETTER has an impressive business model that offers reasonable prices for customers, and it’s very convenient.”

Comparing buying and owning with leasing a car for a period of four years, he said, “This is a better option, because it offers economical prices. If you buy and own a car and pay a certain amount for four years, then try to sell the car off at a second-hand price, the value will be lower.”

The minister also said that BETTER is especially convenient for large institutions, embassies, diplomatic missions, government departments with certain disposal policies, and multinational companies. The comprehensive services provided with the application, administrative process, insurance and road tax are all practical in keeping with contemporary needs.

Mubashar Khokar, the Chairman of BETTER Sdn Bhd, said in his welcoming remarks, “BETTER has a very unique model, and is a very strategic expansion for the Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Group. It is much more than a car-leasing and rental company in Brunei Darussalam.

“BETTER’s business model, although new to Brunei, has long been established and is popular in other countries such as the United Kingdom, due to its flexible terms coupled with the lower total cost of ownership. It’s a concept of moving towards user-ship from ownership, because people understand that there is no point investing in depreciating assets.

“At BETTER, we want to always provide a BETTER deal to our customers by providing short and long-term value for money rental plans that address customers’ individual needs. Our rental plans give customers the flexibility to pick and choose rental packages which suit them the best. With our pay-as-you-go plan, customers are not locked in and have the flexibility of choosing how long they want to rent cars from BETTER, with an annual mileage plan that fits their mobility needs.”

For customers, he said, “We have an app, which works flawlessly and plans to deliver the vehicle at your doorstep within 24 hours, for a long-term lease. We believe in transparency, so that customers know upfront how much they have to pay with no surprise payments using our BETTER App.

“Since customers know exactly how much they have to pay, they are in a better position to manage their finances. All our plans are inclusive from insurance, road tax to servicing covered in a fixed payment.”

One of BETTER’s first clients was Dayangku Alliwaty Ashanti binti Pengiran Bakar Ali, an employee with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), who told the Bulletin, “I like the unique service, which makes life easier. I know that the payments that I make are inclusive of road tax, insurance as well as servicing, so I don’t have to waste time on insurance or road tax renewal.”

Dayangku Alliwaty Ashanti is currently leasing a Toyota Vios for four years, with a 10,000 mileage plan.

For more information, members of the public can visit the BETTER Expo at the Times Square Shopping Centre, which runs until until December 4.
