THE ‘ITB Smart Shower 2.0’ project has received the Merit Award in the Tertiary Category at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA Awards) which ran from December 2-5 in Taipei.
The ITB Smart Shower 2.0 is the brainchild of former Universiti Teknologi Brunei’s Civil Engineering undergraduates Matius anak Belayan, Nur Syamimi Qurratu’Ainee binti Mohd Noh, Chang Wei Hau, Tan Keh Guan and Tony Chieng Tiew Loong.
Receiving the award in Taipei was Matius anak Belayan, the group leader.
The device is a water saving showerhead that automatically adjusts the flow rate of the water for different stages of a shower such as during rinsing and soaping to minimise the amount of water used per shower.
The device controls the flow rate efficiently and lets users shower longer but still uses far less water than usual. The showerhead also has a built-in micro hydro-generator which generates electricity for the showerhead system.
Prior to competing in APICTA, the invention won second place in the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2016 this year in the Tertiary Project Category. BICTA is a component of APICTA and the winners in BICTA are invited to represent Brunei Darussalam in APICTA.
The APICTA Awards is an international awards programme which aims to increase ICT awareness in the community, and assist in bridging the digital divide.
The programme also aims to stimulate the ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, while providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to the innovators and entrepreneurs in the region.
APICTA consists of 17 economies that include Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Nepal.
