IN ITS efforts to promote and encourage more involvement of local residents in Ten Pin Bowling, Plaza Sutera Biru will host the inaugural Master Tournament, which is expected to start on January 8 to November 26, 2017.
Speaking during the press conference yesterday, Tony Lim, manager of the Bowling of Plaza Sutera Biru, said the tournament offers prizes worth up to $7,000.
“We are aiming for the participation of 60 people every month and open to local players from various age groups,” he said.
The match also aims to establish a platform to develop the skills of bowlers and to further improve the sport of bowling in the country.
“The tournament is open for local players with no age limit. They only need to register at the counters that will be set up and make payments for the qualifying round matches which will be held every month starting in January. For the qualifying round, it will be divided into two categories: Open and Digrade,” he said.
“Top 18 players of the qualifying round will be evaluated from the highest pin in each game and will be informed to play again for the top prize in the final qualifying round at the end of each month. The winner of the final qualifying round will be selected to play in the final stage in November 2017,” he added.
However, in the event of repeated winners at the qualifying round, second place winner will automatically qualify for the final.
Winners of the qualifying round of the month will receive prizes such as trophies and vouchers for the outlet under Sutera Biru Plaza including PSB Cinema and Bowling Center Seria.
According to Pengiran Md Noor Joffren bin Pengiran Omar, Managing Partner of Plaza Sutera Biru, the winner will get the Bang & Olufsen A9 brand speaker worth $3,500, a return air ticket to Kuala Lumpur with accommodation at Impiana Hotel for three days and two nights, and two Plaza Sutera Biru privilege cards.
“The second place winner will receive Bang & Olufsen A6 brand speaker worth $1,600 along with a voucher worth $100 and Plaza Sutera Biru privilege card. Third place winner will receive a Bang & Olufsen headphone worth $600, a $50 voucher and two Plaza Sutera Biru privilege cards,” he said.
The organiser will also feature a bowling team from Sarawak, who was the overall winner at the 17th Sukma Games 2016 in Sarawak. Tony Lim told the Sarawak team will share their experience and hold bowling clinics along with other events such as demonstrations, motivational talks.
