IN LINE with its vision of providing assistance and services to the community, the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) yesterday held a ceremony to hand over financial contributions totalling $302,150 to victims of house fire, a village consultative council and two local non-government organisations (NGOs).
The donations were presented to the recipients by the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs and Vice Chairman II of Yayasan Board of Directors.
Yayasan distributed a total of $193,800 financial assistance to 46 families that were affected by the recent house fires in Kampong Pandai Besi ‘A’, Kampong Lurong Dalam, Kampong Sungai Asam, Kampong Pulaie, RPN Kampong Meragang and Kampong Sungai Tanit.
It also distributed coupons worth $3,350 to 26 students who are children of the house fire victims to assist them to buy school supplies and books for the upcoming 2017 new school year.
Meanwhile, the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam received a financial contribution of $50,000 from Yayasan.
The donation was presented by the guest of honour to Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Senior Trustee of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam.
The Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) received $50,000. From the donation, 50 per cent will be used to support SMARTER’s teaching and learning programmes for the children with special needs, while the remaining 50 per cent will be used for paying educational fees for children from less fortunate families.
Last year, Yayasan donated $50,000 to sponsor the construction of five classrooms for the newly established SMARTER Centre in Kampong Mata-Mata.
The donation was received by Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, the President of SMARTER.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of a $5,000 donation to the RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau Village Consultative Council of Mukim Mentiri which is aimed to support the organisation of the council’s Weekend Bazaar which is designed to help the less fortunate families and low income earners to earn extra income as well as to encourage them towards entrepreneurship.
Present to receive the donation on behalf of the council was Haji Hairol Azri bin Haji Salamat, Deputy Chairman of the RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau Village Consultative Council.
Muhammad Nazri bin Saie, treasurer of the council, expressed gratitude towards Yayasan for the financial assistance. According to him, the fund will be used to finance the council’s ongoing projects which include the costs of installing an electrical mini feeder and water meter for the benefit of the participating vendors at the Weekend Bazaar.
Yayasan serves as a platform for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the royal family to provide assistance to those in need as a sign of care and love towards the people, aside from helping to build a prosperous and harmonious country.
