Brunei Students’ Society Cardiff (BRUSCA) have been organising the Winter Games, an annual sporting event for Bruneian students, since 2014 and previously Brunei Darussalam Students’ Society Wales (BDSSW) hosted it in 2012.
This year’s Winter Games marked the 10th anniversary since Brunei Students’ Union (BSU) revived the tournament in 2006 after the end of the BIA tournaments in the mid 2000s.
“This is an occasion for the students to prove that they not only excel in academic achievements but also in the field of sports. I do hope that these activities will continue in years to come”, said Pengiran Hajah Rooslina Weti binti Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, Deputy High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the United Kingdom, in her speech who was the guest-of-honour at the event.
“This year’s event received an encouraging response, a clear increase with 225 participants taking part this year including volunteers compared to last year whereby only 170 participants took part”, said Dayangku Siti Nurul Naabihah binti Pengiran Haji Roslan, President of BRUSCA in her speech during the opening ceremony.
“A total of 17 associations took part in this year’s events including Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester and Essex”.
She added that there were a lot of clear changes this year, among others, the involvement of the Malaysian Society not only in terms of volunteering but also through entrepreneurship which have been a norm in the CWG.
