SEEING Brunei as a robust growth area amid a challenging global economic environment, multinational conglomerate Siemens launched a division of its Siemens Building Technologies in the Sultanate yesterday.
The technology powerhouse has partnered with joint venture local companies, Functional Engineering Sdn Bhd and Allied Engineering Solutions that seek to focus on fire safety and building management in the country, to establish the division.
The new venture will offer fire protection technology and building automation system services in Brunei.
“Siemens has been present in Brunei for the past 17 years and has been heavily involved in improving the infrastructure of this country,” said Dr Armin Bruck, Siemens’ Chief Executive Officer (Asean), said in his opening remarks at the launching event.
“This ranges from supplying and installing the digital electronic switching system for the country’s postal administration, to modernising the monitoring and communication system of Brunei International Airport, to providing fixed telecommunications network to the country.
“Since 2005, we have been a major healthcare partner in Brunei, by providing many state-of-the-art healthcare equipment to the hospitals here,” he noted.
Brunei is an important market for Siemens’ growth in Southeast Asia. That is why we have been increasing our engagement here, and expanding our operations, the CEO added.
“One of the key approaches for us to achieve this growth in Brunei is by bringing on board local business partners to provide a platform for skill transfer, and also a local connection in the fields of energy, industry, infrastructure and healthcare.”
In Brunei, the company will provide products and solution from two business segments; Control Products and Systems and Fire Safety, according to the CEO.
“Siemens Building Technologies is the world market leader for safe, energy efficient and environmentally friendly buildings and infrastructure. As a technology partner, consultant, service provider, system integrator and product supplier, we offer fire protection, security, building automation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and energy management products and services,” the CEO explained.
The official launching of the Siemens Building Technologies division was held at the Badi’ah Hotel in Batu Satu.
Also present at the event were Kamaljit Singh, Country Manager Brunei; Tejas U Deshpande, Regional Manager (CPS Asean) and Comfort (SRA) Product Promoter; and Edward P Nainggolan, Country Manager (Indonesia) and FS Asean Product Promoter.
An overview of the two local joint venture companies was presented at the event followed by a question-and-answer session.
