THE Brunei-Muara District Office has put out a reminder for intending participants of the upcoming ‘Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding’ competition in accordance with the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Officers at the Brunei-Muara District Office Mohamad Hasanhamuny bin Bakar and Noor Sarina binti Haji Kassim, as the competition Secretariat, reminded that the closing date for entries is May 7.
Registration for the competition has been open since April 4.
The competition is divided into six categories – Boys, Girls, Male Youths, Female Youths, Adult Male and Adult Female – and is open to all citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam.
Entry forms can be obtained from mosques, suraus and prayer halls in the Brunei-Muara District only.
The completed forms must be returned to the same place where they were obtained. The completed forms must be authorised by the Imams and Mukim Penghulus/village heads with the attached copies of birth certificates and IC Smartcard.
The district level competition is organised by the religious activities committee for the birthday celebrations of His Majesty, with cooperation from the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs. Winners will participate in the the national level competition.
The child category is open to those between six and 14 years, while the Youths category is for participants between 15 and 25, and the Adult category is for participants aged 26 above.
Those from the Huffaz 30 Juzuks’ Al-Quran, mosque officers, students and former students of the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (including teachers) are not eligible to enter the competition.
The competition aims to fete the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty, instil the love for Al-Quran and inculcate the habit of reciting the Al-Quran, generate in-depth understanding of Al-Quran and to support the nation’s aspirations of becoming a Zikir Nation.
The district level competition will be conducted in May. For the Brunei-Muara District, the competition will be held at the Muhibbah Hall. Winners will be entered into a competition at the national level on a future date.
Participants will be given a certificate of participation, while committee members will be given a certificate of appreciation.
