State Mufti launches Islamic library open day and digital system

THE State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, yesterday officiated the launching of the Brunei Islamic Library Open Day and the Islamic Digital Library System (IDLS) at the lobby area of the Brunei Islamic Library in Jalan Babu Raja.

Haji Saiful Nizam bin Haji Sulaiman, Acting Director of Administration, State Mufti’s Office in a welcoming remark underlined that the open day aimed to provide opportunity to the public, especially Muslims, to further recognise the Brunei Islamic Library and its services provided.

“Collecting various rare materials is among the efforts and activities conducted by the Brunei Islamic Library and to date, the collections total to more than 200,000 books and manuscripts from past and current scholars in different fields. The library also has materials that can be used as references by those who are doing research and to gain further knowledge,” he said.

He added that the IDLS has been implemented to add value to the services offered which helps to provide better and convenient services offered by the library.

 Meanwhile the State Mufti highlighted that the main initial objective and function of the establishment of the library was to be a complete Islamic Knowledge Centre and as the only public Islamic library in the country.

The library has a total of 230,965 books and 60,000 book titles.

“Apart from Kitab or books, this library has other collections such as manuscripts, journals, conference papers, audio-video, thesis and dissertations in various languages including Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Thailand, Malay, and English,” he said.

The State Mufti also believes that the library will be able to contribute its services to the Muslims inside and outside the country.

Also in attendance were Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Permanent Secretary (Law and Welfare) at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, Deputy State Mufti.
