International Study Fair to be held on Jan 23

EDUCATION services agency Findlay has announced that it will be holding an International Study Fair on Monday, January 23 at The Rizqun International Hotel, which will feature the participation of universities and colleges from the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Canada.

In a press release yesterday, Findlay shared that the International Study Fair will see representatives from 20 universities and colleges in the UK, eight universities and their pathway colleges in the USA as well as a college in Canada on hand to discuss study options.

The UK universities include De Montfort, Derby, Lancaster, Northumbria, Portsmouth, Queen’s Belfast, South Wales, Southampton Solent, St Andrew’s, Surrey and Wolverhampton. The USA universities will include Drew, Oregon State, George Mason, James Madison, Colorado State, Alabama at Birmingham, St Louis and South Florida. In addition, Centennial College in Ontario, Canada will also be present.

To support Bruneians who are seeking employment prospects in the private sector, Findlay has also invited leading professionals to speak to interested students and help them make informed decisions on careers in their fields.

Sunita Martin, the Director of Findlay said in a statement, “Our tagline is ‘Solutions for Education, Employment and Excellence’. We aim to support Bruneian students from when they begin to think about higher education options until they get their first job.

“We have found that students responded very well to the opportunity of speaking directly to experienced professionals,” she said. “By doing so, they can make informed decisions on appropriate study courses that not only play to their strengths and interests but are expected to be in demand in the future. This in turn opens up good graduate employment prospects making a real contribution to nation-building and diversification in Brunei.”

“Research is key,” she added. “Speaking to experienced professionals and understanding one’s own aptitudes and interests will reap rewards for a high level of career and job satisfaction as well as a brighter future.”

Amongst the experts who will be present during the afternoon on 23 January are, Pengiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim, Country Head, Corporate and Institutional Banking at Standard Chartered Bank; Yusof Fadli bin Haji Sidek, Head of Information Security Unit at Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD); Hiro Tien, founder of SocialBuzz Advertising; and Michelle Chong from Hengyi Industries.

Professionals from Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd, the Brunei Association of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA Brunei), Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) and the Brunei Darussalam Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA) will also be present. Findlay will represent those universities and colleges from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the UK, the US and Canada that were unable to send a representative to the fair, and will also showcase its Morrisby Career Profiling psychometric assessments for students who are unsure of what educational or career paths to take. The press release goes on to note that Ministry of Education officers from the Scholarship Unit, the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council and the Higher Education Unit will also be present for enquiries regarding the government’s education loan scheme or ‘Skim Bantuan Pinjaman Pendidikan’.
