A MUSIC performance featuring Yazid, a drummer from the Malaysian rock band, Search, and guitarist Joe Burnmark, took place at Studio Melodia Music and Entertainment on the afternoon of January 29.
The event drew a huge number of people, many of whom are actively playing in a band of their own. Most of the people who attended the event hoped to learn from the two music legends about performing on stage.
In an interview, Dato Rosli bin Hajiwah, Manager for the Semina Music, Guitar and Drum Clinic featuring Yazid and Joe Burnmark, said, “This event is to pass on the knowledge that they (Yazid and Joe Burnmark) have gained from being in the music industry for over 40 years, ranging from tuning to skills needed to be a good musician. This can be used as a guide for performing better as a guitarist or drummer in the future.”
“This is our first visit to Brunei and I am glad to see the passion of music among Bruneians. This also lays the foundation for the future, as we hope to have discussions with the people in the Brunei music industry and determine whether more events like this can be organised. We are happy with the turnout today as well as the previous two studios we visited yesterday was great as they get to meet their idols and learn from them,” he added.
The event took place in Tanjong Bunut and Tutong District the day before, and the event held on January 29 was organised for the musicians and bands based in the Belait District.
The event started around 3.30pm with the arrival of Yazid and Joe, followed by a short conversation between them and the people who attended the event. Shortly afterwards a group photo session took place in front of the studio followed by the drum and guitar clinic, where players learned skills Yazid and Joe had gained from years of experience.
Both Yazid and Joe were willing to teach the musicians and bands that attended the event, giving advice, playing together with the bands and talking about their experiences in the music industry all as well as giving their all in performances that were enjoyed by fans and passersby alike.
