BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently held a special open-discussion session between renowned global Syariah scholar, Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar and BIBD employees.
The session was held for BIBD employees to develop a better understanding of Islamic finance along with keeping abreast with new developments within the world of Islamic finance.
In the talk about Shariah minds in today’s banking perspective, he touched upon the beauty of Islamic finance in its role as a key promoter of inclusive and real economic activity for everyone, and not just Muslims.
He also discussed how Syariah is a critical component, not just in terms of banking transactions, but also inclusive of all activities related to the business.
BIBD Managing Director Mubashar Khokhar said, “We thank Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar for taking the time to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with us at BIBD.
“We at BIBD are constantly looking at opportunities to further improve our capabilities to better contribute to the development of Islamic finance in the nation.”
Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar currently sits as Chairman of the Syariah Advisory Council at the Central Bank of Malaysia, the Securities Commission of Malaysia, the Labuan Financial Services Authority, and the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM).
At the same time, he serves as Syariah board member of various financial institutions that includes the National Bank of Oman (Oman), Noor Islamic Bank (Dubai), Amundi Asset Management (France), Morgan Stanley (Dubai), Bank of London and Middle East (London), BNP Paribas (Bahrain), Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (New York), amongst many others.
Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar has also been honoured with the ‘Syariah Scholar of the Year 2015’ by the London Sukuk Summit, ‘The Asset Triple A Industry Leadership Award’ at The Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Award 2014 by The Asset magazine, and been named as the ‘Most Outstanding Individual’ awarded by His Majesty, the King of Malaysia.
