IN FACING the challenges of globalisa-tion, planning and long-term initiatives should be handled effectively and continuously by the government for the future well-being of the country and the future generations.
YB Awang Haji Zulkipli bin Haji Abdul Hamid, a Legislative Council member, said this during his adjournment speech at the 12th Legislative Council (LegCo) Meeting yesterday.
Supporting the Brunei Vision 2035 Framework, the LegCo member said that with the involvement of private and industrial sectors, as suggested during the session, the vision will be realised quickly.
He also hoped that more youth will be involved in the framework so that it will be further enhanced for the benefit of the country.
Touching on human capacity building, he hoped that the establishment of the National Manpower Planning Council could assist in making manpower building more holistic and directed.
YB Awang Haji Zulkipli also suggested the establishment of a National Productivity Council and identifying the skills in need to further enhance the country’s innovation and productivity.
The LegCo member also emphasised the importance of implementing early education, hoping that there will be more focus on universal education with high quality of learning.
At the same time, in ensuring that our students are able to compete globally, they must be excellent in the subjects of mathematics and science. It is hoped that the country’s participation in the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) will result in significant achievements the country could be proud of.
Empowerment on religious and cultural values based on Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) also needs to be further strengthened, he added.
On personal financial security, YB Awang Haji Zulkipli said contribution for the Employees Trust Fund (TAP) and Supplemental Contributory Pension (SCP) will be further increased to provide more confidence to retirees.
He hoped that strategic financial literacy would be implemented on the national level so that it would raise awareness among people and make them wiser in managing their financial needs.
