IN CONJUNCTION with the 33rd Brunei Darussalam National Day celebration, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) conducted Khatam Al-Quran ceremonies in the country’s four districts participated by 1,543 youths yesterday.
The ceremony in the Brunei-Muara District was held at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Kampong Madang/Manggis.
Present as guest of honour was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof. Also present were the Permanent Secretary at the MCYS, Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MCYS, Haji Mohd Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad.
The participants comprised youths from the National Service Programme (PKBN), Youth Development Centre, students from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), students from various higher learning and technical education institutions, secondary and religious school students, youth associations and youths from the Belia Cinta Tanah Air programme, National Youth Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran.
The event was participated by 972 youths and began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour followed with the mass recitation of Surah Ad-Dhuha until Surah Al-Massad led by Awangku Muhammad Fahmi Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Fikeh, a student from ITQSHHB followed by the reading of Takhtim Al-Quran by Ashizal bin Zainal Abidin from the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan.
The recitation of the Doa Khatam was led by Abdussyakur bin Haji Jahari, a student from ITQSHHB, while PKBN trainees led recitations of the Dikir Marhaban.
The ceremony concluded with the recitation of ‘Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Brunei Darussalam’ read by Nuzli bin Haji Jumat, the Mosque Affairs Officer.
The ceremony in the Belait District was held at the RPN Kam-pong Pandan Mosque and 153 people comprising government officials and students from re-ligious educational institutions, technical education institutions and secondary schools joined the event. Present as guest of honour was Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development.
The ceremony in the Tutong District was held at the Kampong Penanjong Tutong Mosque and 123 people from secondary schools, Mahad Islam Brunei and youth associations participated.
Present as guest of honour was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education.
The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in the Temburong District was held at the Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar and was participated by 295 youths. Present as guest of honour was Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the MCYS.
The ceremonies sought to enliven the National Day celebration with activities particularly the recitation of the Al-Quran in line with the nation’s vision in making Brunei as a Zikir Nation while also strengthening understanding between agencies involved in youth and community development.
It also sought to encourage more youths to be active in religious activities to help them face future challenges in becoming the nation’s leaders of tomorrow.
