THE Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA), in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Department organised the 5th Brunei Junior Taekwondo Championship on March 21-22 at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex.
The two-day annual event was held as part of BDTA’s initiatives to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah to involve our youth in healthy activities and at the same time to develop and build the sport as one of the core sports in Brunei Darussalam.
Six local Taekwondo clubs were represented in the championship: Dynamic Taekwondo Dojang, Hybrid Martial Arts Academy, Unite Taekwondo Gym, Apex Martial Arts Academy, Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam Secondary School (SMPIHM) Taekwondo Club and Wiraseni Taekwondo Academy.
A total of 113 participants took part in four age categories – 7 to 9-years-old, 10 to 12-years-old, 13 to 15-years-old and 16 to 17-years-old categories for both boys and girls.
The championship also gave the young talented athletes opportunities to show their kyorugi (sparring) talents at the national level, to improve the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship among the players.
It is also a platform for the association to identify talented players that can be immersed in various sports schemes organized by Youth and Sports Department and BDTA.
Hybrid Martial Arts Academy emerged Overall Champion of the championship with 12 gold medals, six silver and nine bronze.
Runner Ups went to Unite Taekwondo Gym with nine gold medals, seven silver and 11 bronze, while Dynamic Taekwondo Dojang took 3rd Place with seven gold medals, 13 silver and seven bronze.
Haji Tajuddin bin Haji Salleh, President of Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association presented the prizes.
