154 metric tonnes of Safawy dates for Brunei citizens

YAYASAN Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) yesterday organised a meeting to discuss the distribution of 154 metric tonnes of ‘Safawy’ dates for all Muslim citizens and residents in Brunei.

The dates, a personal Kurnia from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will be distributed in time for the upcoming month of Ramadhan.

Held at the multipurpose hall of the Yayasan Complex in the capital, the meeting was chaired by Yayasan Managing Director Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail.

Among the agendas discussed during the meeting included the handling and distribution of dates as well as the appointment of a secretariat and members of the coordinating committee for the distribution of the dates.

Each Muslim citizen and resident will receive a 300-gramme packet of the Safawy dates.

The dates, supplied by Al Madinah Dates in Saudi Arabia, will be shipped and stored in chilled containers to preserve its freshness. They are expected to arrive by the end of April.

The dates will be distributed to village heads after a ceremony. The dates will then be distributed to residents of the respective villages.

The commanding officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), unit heads at the Ministry of Defence, Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and formation directors of RBPF will also receive the dates to be distributed to personnel.

Present at the meeting were representatives of the four district offices, officials representing the Royal Customs and Excise Department, Ports Department, RBAF, RBPF, Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), Information Department as well as Yayasan.
