SIXTY-SEVEN former students of Berakas Secondary School (SMB) yesterday received their academic excellence awards at a ceremony at the school’s multipurpose hall.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and verses from the Al-Quran followed by a speech by the school principal.
Cikgu Abdullah bin Ismail said that there was a 12.05 per cent increase in the number of passing students for the Brunei Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level in 2016 from 28.8 per cent in 2015.
“For the first time in SMB’s history, we achieved 40 per cent passes for our Year 11 students. I would also like to announce that SMB is now ranked in the Top 10 for secondary schools and colleges across the country,” he said.
Cikgu Abdullah also congratulated the students for achieving good results and thanked parents and teachers who supported the students.
The award is hoped to act as a stimulus to guide every student with their development, particularly in raising the bar of their academic excellence and achievement in the future, and as a platform for students to do well in their examination.
Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli, Director of Information and Communication Technology of the Ministry of Education who was the guest of honour presented the awards.
The event concluded with a Doa Selamat and a group photo session.
