THE Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) Sailing Ship, 286 Le Quy Don, recently docked in Brunei Darussalam carrying seven officers, 50 naval cadets and 63 crew.
Five Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) officers joined the ship upon entering the naval base as part of an interaction initiative between the two navies.
The ship here on a three-day visit from April 14 was on its maiden voyage around the region. The vessel is commanded by Senior Lieutenant La Van Tam, while the delegation head onboard is Senior Captain Phan Van Van, Deputy Director of the Naval Academy.
Prior to setting sail, a reception was held at the Muara Naval Base, hosted by Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam Nguyen Truong Giang, with Deputy Minister of Defence First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit attending as the guest of honour.
Also present the reception were Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Captain (Rtd) Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence; First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Commander of the RBN; Captain (Rtd) Haji Mohammad Amirul Shahnoel bin Haji Mohammad Noeh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology) at the Ministry of Defence (RBAF) as well as senior officers and officers of the RBAF and RBN.
