AS PART of the nation-wide religious programme for religious and Arabic schools orgranised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Belait District held its iteration of programme at the Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Abdul Momin Religious School (SUPSJPAM) in Pandan 6.
Pre-school to Primary 4 students participated in the programme which was themed, ‘Smoking and How It Affects People Who Smokes’.
The programme also saw a Tazkirah presented by Cikgu Johrizan bin Johari, Assistant Teacher of SUPSJPAM, where he explained the theme to students.
He mentioned that studies from Islamic and non-Islamic sources have shown that smoking is a danger to one’s health.

He explained that every breath of smoke from a cigarette consists of more than 4,000 chemicals which are dangerous to smokers and the people around them.
Furthermore, he highlighted the fact that in Islam, it is forbidden for one to destroy oneself.
In addition to being dangerous and destructive, the act of smoking is also wasteful.
He concluded the Tazkirah by mentioning that in order for Brunei Darussalam to be free from smoking, it is necessary to teach on the dangers of smoking from a young age.
