PEKIRA, an association of former government staff, yesterday recorded a milestone in the effort of enhancing the economic level of its members when Usahajaya PEKIRA Berhad cooperative’s filling station located at Simpang 842 in Kampong Jangsak, Jalan Gadong was officially opened by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, who was the guest of honour at the ceremony.
Also in attendance were the President of PEKIRA, fuel and bus investors as well as the members of PEKIRA.
The event commenced with a recitation of Al-Quran verses, followed by welcoming remarks from the Board of Directors’ Chairman of Usahajaya PEKIRA Berhad Cooperative, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Jaludin bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Limbang.
In his remarks, the chairman briefly shared the early planning into building the filling station, which was back in 2008 through the Usahajaya PEKIRA Berhad cooperative or KUPB in short.
The intention was realised with the purchase of a 0.508-hectare plot of land for more than half a million Brunei dollars.
The handover of the station took place on July 30 last year, after which it began its operations on August 1.
The station has 228 investors, with total sum of $3,078,491.
Its bus rental service, meanwhile, has 26 investors with $65,000.
The ceremony concluded with a Doa Selamat.
