A SPECIAL lecture titled ‘Strengthening the Family Institution’ was delivered by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas to commemorate Family Day 2017 yesterday.
The lecture was aimed at providing the public with an understanding and awareness of the importance of family welfare and the family institution, and encouraging them to live in a disciplined and civilised manner, with particular emphasis made on the importance of adhering to the tenets of Islam to produce strong, harmonious families.
The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa which was led by Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdullah, Mosque Affairs Officer.
The lecture was delivered after the screening of two short National Family Day 2017-themed videos, titled ‘Kalau Sayang Kenapa Pukul’ and ‘Keluargaku Penyayang Negara Gemilang’.

The event was attended by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of Legislative Council, and their spouses.
Also in attendance were members of the committee for National Family Day 2017, senior officers and staff from various government ministries, non-government organisations (NGOs), youths, students from higher learning institutions in the country, trainees from the Youth Development Centre, and members of the public.
